Before you even reach the beauty of Okutadami lake you have a breath-taking trip to get there as the road tunnels into the mountains to take you up to this hidden gem. High in the mountains this is the start of the national park that links up to Oze and beyond. The boat trips around the lake offer amazing views especially in autumn as the leaves change color. The lake itself is home to many kinds of fish and is famous among the fishermen in Japan. This area can also boast year round snow at Ginzan-daira, and the ski resort at Okutadami-Maruyama is usually one of the last to close each year. It often shuts over mid-winter as access is too challenging.
