The Story of Akiyamago Village

Akiyamago is far off the beaten track and offers a chance to see rural Japan at its best. It is several small hamlets tucked away deep in the mountains and only accessible by winding mountain roads. The drive in is stunning as you twist and turn through native forests, through gorges and under the shadow of towering mountains. Communities in this area still live very much off the land and the bounty of the mountains plays an important part in the local cuisine with game, mountain fruits, mushrooms and honey all collected locally. There are also some stunning onsen hidden away, many of which are left as naturally as possible. For those that love nature and the outdoors Akiyamago should definitely be high on the list of places to visit.
